WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Novant Health New Hanover Rehabilitation Hospital has renovated a space that allows patients to practice everyday activities on their road to recovery, thanks to a generous gift.
Bill and Debbie Rudisill provided a major gift to fund the renovation of the Easy Street section of the hospital's therapy gym, which was the first upfit of that section since the rehab hospital opened in 1994.
Easy Street houses a mock grocery store, kitchen, car and different types of terrain, allowing patients to practice vital functional skills as part of their recovery to prepare them for returning home.
"Bill and Debbie Rudisill have supported multiple areas of the hospital over the years. When we had a need, they were there for us and our team," said Schorr Davis, the foundation’s executive director. "We remain so grateful for their generosity and longstanding support."
The Rudisills made the gift in honor of longtime physician Dr. John Liguori, who served as the first medical director of the rehabilitation hospital until retiring from that position in 2021.
"Our rehabilitation team members so appreciate this beautiful new space that will benefit patients for many years to come," said Leslie Kesler, administrator of rehabilitation services.
