Novant Health New Hanover Orthopedic Hospital is now offering a new robotic system, marking an advancement in knee surgery technology.
The TMINI Miniature Robotic System, developed by medical technology company THINK Surgical, is part of Novant Health’s ongoing efforts to offer the latest tools in robotic-assisted orthopedic surgery to patients in southeastern North Carolina.
The TMINI system includes a wireless, compact robotic handpiece that assists surgeons in performing total knee replacement. By following a detailed three-dimensional map of the patient's knee anatomy, the robotic handpiece mimics a surgeon’s hand movement to precisely locate surgical instruments. This system allows the care team additional flexibility in choosing a knee implant to fit an individual patient’s needs and lifestyle.
“We are thrilled to introduce an additional robotic program at Novant Health New Hanover’s Orthopedic Hospital,” said Grant Rush, vice president, cardiovascular and surgical services for the Novant Health Coastal Region. “The adoption of this system emphasizes our commitment to offering innovative technologies to enhance patient care and surgical excellence.”
Nearly 10,000 orthopedic surgeries are performed each year in Novant Health’s Coastal Region. Of those, more than 2,000 are joint-related procedures. In March, Healthgrades named Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Outpatient Joint Replacement and one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Outpatient Orthopedic Surgery.
Novant Health has made a significant investment in bringing the latest in robotic-assisted orthopedic surgery to patients in southeastern North Carolina. The health care system has grown the use of orthopedic surgical robots at both Novant Health New Hanover Orthopedic Hospital and at Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center.
