Novant Health and Charlotte Symphony Orchestra bring music, healing, and community together with a CSO Roadshow performance

The free concert at the Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic is part of Novant Health’s Art of Remarkable Care initiative.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 16, 2025) – To bring the community together through the arts, Novant Health and the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra partnered to present a special CSO Roadshow concert held at the Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic North End location. The clinic provides vital access to comprehensive healthcare, which is essential to creating a healthier, stronger community, and pairing it with this performance promotes both wellness and togetherness.

This community event is part of Novant Health’s ongoing Art of Remarkable Care initiative, engaging local artists and amplifying the healing power of the arts for patients, care teams and the entire community. Programming includes art therapy, the installation of murals and wall art produced by local artists in Novant Health facilities, and events like CSO Roadshow, which provide increased opportunities for the community to engage with art as a well-being practice.

“Music, like medicine, can have a profound impact and create moments of healing. It can uplift, soothe and connect us, and that was our hope with this performance at the Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic,” said Kristen Howard, vice president of corporate affairs for Novant Health. “We are grateful to the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra for partnering with us on this unique celebration of community and care.”

The transformative power of the arts is evident, as studies have shown exposure to and participation in the arts can play a role in lessening the severity of chronic pain, stress and anxiety. According to the American Journal of Public Health, consistent interaction with art, including intentionally listening to music, has been shown to increase immune system responsiveness. The Art of Remarkable Care initiative is part of Novant Health’s commitment to patient-centered care and ensuring people don’t just get better but thrive.

The free, one-hour performance was open to the community and held at one of the Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinics, which provides comprehensive primary, behavioral, and social support services to patients, regardless of insurance coverage. A Novant Health Community Care Cruiser was also at the event and provided health screenings and education to community members. The cruisers are regularly deployed in the region to provide a wide variety of free health services including routine screenings and vaccinations, nutrition education and counseling, physical assessments, and connections to social resources as well as primary and specialty care.

“Engaging with the arts can be transformational and contribute to a better experience and improved outcome for our patients. Novant Health is grounded in the belief that everyone deserves safe and quality healthcare, and opening access to arts and culture is just as vital,” said Dr. Sid Fletcher, senior vice president and president of Novant Health’s greater Charlotte region. “The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra champions that effort and together, we are making a positive impact on the physical and emotional well-being of our community.”

For more than 90 years, the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra has served as a cultural cornerstone in the Charlotte region, using music to unite and inspire. Novant Health has long supported its mission through the sponsorship of the Summer Pops series and other community-centered programs.

“We’re deeply grateful to Novant Health for our longstanding partnership and shared belief in the power of the arts to promote health and healing,” said David Fisk, president and CEO of the Charlotte Symphony. “Music has the ability to comfort, to connect and to uplift — just as compassionate medical care does. Bringing these two forces together through initiatives like the Art of Remarkable Care makes a lasting impact on the well-being of our city.”

CSO Roadshow is a traveling concert series that’s all about connection — neighbors coming together to share music and the energy of live performance right in their own backyard. The mobile stage is wrapped in eye-catching and vibrant artwork designed by local creative Rosalia Torres-Weiner. Created in partnership with the City of Charlotte and with guidance from the Corridors of Opportunity team, CSO Roadshow offers free, live symphonic performances tailored to reflect the character of Charlotte's diverse neighborhoods.
