Novant Health and YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina Announce Strategic Partnership to Enhance Community Health and Wellness

Novant Health and the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina have partnered to improve the health of the community. The organizations will combine their resources and expertise to offer health screenings, vaccinations and local programs. Together, they will promote community wellness and work to combat chronic diseases, including diabetes and cancer.

Through this partnership, Novant Health and the YMCA can drive meaningful change throughout the region. It has been shown that educating the community about healthcare can significantly lower the risk for chronic disease and illness, which is particularly important as 38% of all U.S. adults have prediabetes and nearly half of U.S. adults have high blood pressure

“We are thrilled to partner with the YMCA to advance our shared vision of a healthier community,” said Ernie Bovio, president of the Novant Health Coastal Region and Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center. “A screening takes only a few minutes but can transform someone’s entire life by catching urgent problems before they advance. By working together, we will decrease barriers to healthcare for people of all backgrounds.”

The YMCA offers programs and services to benefit people of all ages, races, incomes and backgrounds, including financial assistance to qualifying individuals and families to ensure its memberships and programs are affordable for all.

“To effectively address the health and wellness needs of our community, organizations need to collaborate to drive change and advance health equity,” said Dick Jones, president and CEO of the YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina. “Our strategic health and wellness partnership with Novant Health will improve the trajectory of our community’s health through an emphasis on prevention and whole person wellbeing. Not only does this collaboration highlight our shared focus on a healthy community, but it will also expand our reach to advance health equity across southeastern North Carolina.”
