WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Novant Health has named Dr. Edward Norris as the as the system physician executive for the Novant Health Psychiatry and Mental Health Institute. In this role, Norris is responsible for strategic growth, recruitment, retention, operational excellence and clinical advancement of psychiatry and mental health services across all Novant Health facilities and ambulatory locations. He began Jan. 27.
Norris brings a wealth of experience to the role, joining Novant Health from Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN), based in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where he served as the chief medical executive for the behavioral and community health service line and chair of the department of psychiatry. During his 21-year career with LVHN, he was dedicated to advancing mental health care and furthering mental health awareness and resource improvement in the community at large.

Norris is a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a fellow of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. He earned a B.S. in biology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and M.D. from Duke University School of Medicine. He completed his internship in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and his residency in psychiatry at the Massachusetts General and McLean Hospital. Norris also completed a Psychosomatic/ Consultation Psychiatry Fellowship Program at Massachusetts General. He received an MBA from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts.
