Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center Foundation welcomes two new board members

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center Foundation’s board of directors is a distinguished group of professional, business and civic leaders. The 11-member board has welcomed two new members, Wendy Milligan and Deb Pickett. Both women will serve a term from Jan. 1, 2024, through Dec. 31, 2026.

Wendy Milligan is an independent real estate agent with Coldwell Banker Sloane Realty. Prior to working in real estate, she had 31 years of combined experience with Brunswick County Schools as a teacher, counselor, assistant principal and county office supervisor. These various roles provided Milligan with managerial experience. She also met local, state and national educational objectives and benchmarks.

Milligan volunteers with many organizations in the community. She has served 47 years with the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. She is involved in Camp United Methodist Church and has her hands in multiple real estate organizations, as well as farming operations. Formerly she served as the past president and past district education chairman of the South Brunswick Islands Woman’s Club.

When asked why she wanted to become a part of the board of directors, Milligan said, “I am a lifelong resident of southwest Brunswick County. My family has deep roots in Brunswick County. I have lived and worked in my hometown and have been committed to its growth and prosperity throughout my life. I believe in community stewardship, and that is reflected in my achievements and how I spend my time.”

Deb Pickett is a wealth advisor for Signature Wealth Strategies in Leland. She began her career as a registered nurse and then became a pharmaceutical sales representative in the cardiovascular and gastroenterology practice areas. From there, she moved into executive level roles in sales, marketing and customer strategy in the pharmaceutical and agricultural industries. She says starting her career as a registered nurse has given her a strong and continued connection to healthcare and the nursing profession.

Pickett is also very involved in local organizations. She is the president-elect of the Leland Area Rotary Club and a board member of the North Brunswick Chamber of Commerce. She enjoys supporting the veterans in our community and women recovering from substance abuse, as well as supporting local school students by furthering their careers through literacy. Pickett is also past president of the Women in Networking Wilmington chapter.

“I am very active in Brunswick County. I live here, work here and am very active in my community," Pickett said. "I participate in community organizations and activities that foster a sense of belonging and giving back to the residents of Leland. I have focused on getting to know local business owners so that I can serve as a community resource for all the residents who are moving into Leland. I am committed to making Leland a great place for our residents and businesses.”

Each Novant Health foundation engages and connects philanthropy partners to programs and initiatives that save lives and improve the health of our communities, including increasing patient access and improving clinical outcomes. The board of directors serves a vital role in connecting the foundation to those in the community who will invest in the future of healthcare in Brunswick County.
