Novant Health has expanded women’s health and breast cancer surgical programs with the addition of breast surgical oncologist, Dr. Lori Gentile. Gentile specializes in the treatment of breast cancer and uses the most up-to-date techniques to perform all aspects of breast cancer surgery, including breast conservation (lumpectomy), mastectomy, nipple-sparing mastectomy, and axillary lymph node procedures.
Gentile joins Novant Health Carolina Surgical and sees patients at both the new Huntersville and the Charlotte locations. She is an integral part of the Novant Health Cancer Care team, and is on the medical staff at both Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center and Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center.

Gentile completed her medical degree and general surgery residency at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida, including a research fellowship and appointment as administrative chief resident. During her studies, she received numerous awards and accolades including the Edward R. Woodward Surgical Resident’s Award, the Hugh A. Walters Humanitarian Award, and the Academic Achievement Award. Gentile recently completed a breast surgical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, New York. She is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery.
Gentile is an active member of multiple professional organizations including the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology and the American College of Surgeons. She has authored numerous articles in clinical and professional publications, and presented at many state and national conferences. Her clinical and research interests include breast surgery, specifically the treatment and biology of breast cancer in the young and elderly.

As a member of the Novant Health Cancer Care team, Gentile joins a multidisciplinary team of breast cancer experts. This highly skilled team is comprised of medical oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, radiation oncologists, plastic surgeons, and nurse navigators who work together to provide seamless, comprehensive care to patients with a breast cancer diagnosis. This specialized approach to treating breast cancer provides patients with timely diagnosis, treatment and support throughout the cancer journey.
The group of six board-certified surgeons at Novant Health Carolina Surgical provides both general and specialty surgical care and includes Drs. Ilan D. Avin, Wyatt C. Fowler, Carl J. Lowe, Jr., Michael G. Melkonian, Peter S. Turk, and Lori Gentile. The physicians are supported by advanced practice clinicians, Jessica Michalak and Lauren Sandberg, and registered dietitian, Victoria Levesque.
