WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Women’s Council of Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center Foundation, which has raised $525,000 since its founding in 2009 to improve the health of women in the community, is kicking off a special project for 2018 to celebrate its 10th year: to raise an additional $350,000 to support a new mobile mammogram unit to serve local women.
“Early detection and prevention are keys to beating breast cancer. A new mobile mammogram unit will allow more women in the Triad have access to mammograms, ultimately saving more lives, said Heather Egan, a development officer with Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center Foundation and a member of the Women’s Council. “A new mobile mammogram unit is a great way to help more women in the Triad have access to mammograms.”
The mobile mammogram unit will allow Novant Health Breast Center to expand its services into new Triad counties. The new unit will have hospital-quality, 3-D technology, which offers a 41 percent increase in detection of invasive breast cancers over the previous two-dimensional technology while also decreasing the number of women called back for additional imaging. Novant Health Breast Center is the only one currently providing mobile mammograms in Winston-Salem.
