Novant Health Matthews Medical Center to construct new women’s center

Matthews, NC - Novant Health Matthews Medical Center will construct a 26,500-square-foot dedicated women’s center to accommodate recent growth and future needs for ob-gyn services.

The hospital will add seven labor and delivery and post-partum beds on the second floor, bringing the total obstetrics bed count to 30. Two ante-partum and two gyn beds will also be added. In addition, much-needed support space will be created for other areas, such as the special care nursery, to better serve patients and staff. Construction will begin in early 2015 and the center will open in early 2016.

Planning for the new women’s center has been underway for several months and has involved exceptional collaboration among physicians, nurses and other support teams. “We are proud that the comprehensive center will be a special place dedicated to excellence in caring for women and their families” said Pat Campbell, vice president of women’s services. “Novant Health’s investment demonstrates our commitment to providing the most modern, comfortable, safe and private maternity and gyn care for our community.”

This summer, the hospital will completely renovate existing maternity rooms to create a more comfortable, home-like environment for our patients while the new center is being constructed.

The CON also allows Novant Health Matthews Medical Center to convert eight observation beds into medical-surgical beds and one observation bed to an ICU bed.

“We are grateful to the Novant Health physicians, staff and community members who supported our exciting plans and have helped position Novant Health Matthews Medical Center to meet the growing needs of our neighbors in southern Mecklenburg and Union counties,” said Roland Bibeau, president, Novant Health Matthews Medical Center.
