Novant Health Prince William Medical Center recognized for nursing excellence

Manassas, Va., March 17, 2016 – Novant Health Prince William Medical Center is celebrating a major achievement in nursing care that demonstrates the quality and compassionate care that patients have come to expect. The medical center recently achieved Magnet® recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Magnet. This is the first designation for Prince William Medical Center.

The Magnet Recognition Program serves as the national gold standard requiring excellence in three key areas: nursing satisfaction, patient satisfaction and clinical performance. Only 430 health care organizations out of nearly 6,000 U.S. health care organizations have achieved Magnet status. As of 2015, about 7 percent of all registered hospitals in the United States have achieved ANCC Magnet Recognition Status.

“We have the world’s greatest team members working at our hospital, including the highest quality and best-trained nurses available,” said Bebe Holt, president and chief operating officer of Prince William Medical Center. “Being recognized by the ANCC for the quality of our nursing team members underscores that record of excellence. Earning Magnet recognition is a remarkable accomplishment and a tremendous source of pride.”

To achieve Magnet status, Prince William Medical Center provided evidence of patient care and outcomes, and underwent a rigorous review that included an on-site visit. The goals of the Magnet Recognition Program are to promote quality in a setting that supports professional practice, to identify excellence in the delivery of nursing services to patients and to encourage “best practices” in nursing services. Magnet recognition is a four-year designation.
