Novant Health recognized by Vizient for superior safety, quality and supplier diversity

Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center ranked first nationwide in the community hospital cohort, and Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center ranked seventh for complex care medical center cohort

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Two Novant Health hospitals received national recognition as top performers for high-quality care by Vizient Inc. in the 2024 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Study. Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center ranked first in the community hospital cohort and Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center ranked seventh in the large, specialized complex care medical center cohort. Additionally, Novant Health received the Vizient Supplier Diversity Excellence Award in the large, specialized complex care medical center cohort, which recognizes providers who champion inclusion in their supply chain and accelerate economic growth in their local community.

“Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center has now been recognized by Vizient for four consecutive years, consistently placing us among the best community hospitals in the country,” said Joy Greear, the Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center’s president and chief operating officer. “Our first-place ranking would not be possible without our incredible team that is dedicated to delivering remarkable care for the Mint Hill community and beyond.”

The community hospital cohort included 364 Vizient member hospitals recognized for continuously delivering high-quality care based on the annual Vizient Quality and Accountability Study.

“Not only are we honored that Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center received top honors, we are also celebrating Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center’s ranking as No. 7 for the large, specialized complex care medical center cohort,” said Saad Ehtisham, DHA, FACHE, senior vice president, Novant Health, and president of Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center and Novant Health greater Charlotte market. “This third-party validation demonstrates that Novant Health is consistently delivering safe, high-quality care for patients across the care continuum — from community hospitals to our largest hospitals tackling some of the most complex cases.”

The large, specialized complex care medical center cohort included 177 Vizient member hospitals that are required to perform a minimum of 75 combined cardiothoracic and neurosurgery cases and one of the additional qualifying metrics, such as organ transplants, trauma cases or transfers from another acute facility.

Vizient also recognized Novant Health with the Supplier Diversity Excellence Award in the large, specialized complex care medical center, which is based on contract purchases of minority-, woman-, veteran-, LGBTQ- and disabled person-owned business enterprises as a percentage of spend.

“Leading hospitals are leveraging data and analytics to provide superior clinical outcomes,” said David Levine, chief medical officer for Vizient. “These awards honor two Novant Health hospitals for demonstrating leadership focused on results and a culture of collaboration and adaptability that is necessary to succeed. It is a pleasure to congratulate Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center and Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center on their achievement and commitment to delivering exceptional patient care.”

About the Vizient Quality and Accountability Study

This year, 860 participating hospitals were segmented into four cohorts for the Vizient Quality and Accountability Study. The study measures performance on the quality of patient care in six domains: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient-centeredness and equity of care. The study factors in measures from the Vizient Clinical Data Base and includes performance data from the HCAHPS survey and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Healthcare Safety Network.

The Vizient Quality and Accountability Study helps participating hospitals and health systems understand their performance against their peers and identifies structures and processes associated with high performance in quality and safety across a broad spectrum of patient care activity. The recognition period is for work spanning July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024.
