Novant Health raises awareness for men’s health

Winston-Salem, N.C., Nov. 7, 2016 – Novant Health is offering six men’s health seminars in November to celebrate Movember, a health initiative led by the Movember Foundation that focuses on men’s health. The foundation focuses on raising awareness for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention.
Men’s health kickoff with Fleet Feet
On Monday, Nov. 7, at 7:30 a.m. join the Fleet Feet team for physical activity and educational information regarding the importance of physical fitness. Participants will partake in an active warmup and a 30-minute walk or run. Participants will be permitted to park in the gravel emergency room overflow lot on the campus of Novant Health Forsyth medical Center.

Talk Back – ED, not your average emergency: a discussion on erectile dysfunction
Join Dr. Samuel Storch, urological surgeon from Novant Health Urology Partners, who will lead a discussion regarding erectile dysfunction and latest solutions. The seminar is Monday, Nov. 7, at 5:30 p.m., at the Derrick L. Davis Cancer Center, located on the campus of Forsyth Medical Center.

Pelvic Pain in Men
On Wednesday, Nov. 9, at noon, join Lori Baydush, physical therapist at Novant Health Carolina’s Pelvic Health Center. for a candid discussion regarding pelvic pain. When faced with extremely sensitive issues involving the pelvic floor, patients are often embarrassed to discuss such private things with family and close friends. Some find it so uncomfortable that they delay receiving treatment. The seminar will be held at the Novant Health Conference Center, located on the campus of Forsyth Medical Center.

Eat This, Not That! The men’s edition
Join Alice Smith, registered dietitian, and Kelli Davidson, oncology dietitian, for a lunch-and-learn event Thursday, Nov. 10, at noon at the Novant Health Conference Center, located on the campus of Forsyth Medical Center. Participants will learn about male-targeted vitamins and supplements that can help strengthen the overall immune system, in addition to proper nutrition that can ease the effects of chemotherapy and radiation.

Talk Back – The Importance of Genetic Testing in a Diagnosis
Join Dr. R. Morris Friedman, urologist at Carolina Urological Associates, on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 5:30 p.m. in the Maya Angelou Center at Forsyth Medical Center to discuss the importance of genetic testing.

Talk Back – Post-traumatic Stress Disorder
On Friday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m. join Mike Nesser of Novant Health Winston-Salem Healthcare Psychiatry to discuss post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Many veterans, male and female, suffer from PTSD after their service in the military and return to civilian life. The discussion will focus on how PTSD can affect anyone having experienced a traumatic experience. The seminar will take place at the Novant Health Conference Center, located on the campus of Forsyth Medical Center.

The Movember Foundation encourages men to grow mustaches for 30 days to raise funds for men’s health. According to its website, the foundation has raised $710 million and helped fund more than 1,200 men’s health projects in 21 countries.
