WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Novant Health has partnered with Davidson County Schools to provide advanced sports medicine care to student-athletes at the system’s high schools. The two-year contract will begin in the 2017-2018 academic year.
The new program will place athletic trainers at each of the seven high schools, who will offer various treatments on-site for all sports programs. Students will have access to quality sports medicine and health care services, including concussion management. Students will also have the option to receive free sports physicals from Novant Health physicians.
“Novant Health is dedicated to providing remarkable orthopedic and sports medicine care for Davidson County high school student athletes,” said Dr. Mark Schweppe, orthopedic medical director of the program and orthopedic surgeon with Novant Health Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. “We treat a wide array of orthopedic conditions and injuries so that athletes can get back to the activities they enjoy.”
“This is truly a service to the community and we are excited to get started,” said Dr. Zachary Sandbulte, primary care medical director of the program and physician with Novant Health Salem Family Medicine. “This is the first contract of its kind in Davidson County and we are excited to partner with students to make sure they stay safe while playing the sports they love.”
