CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 8, 2018 – Novant Health is hosting the eighth annual “Competitive Edge” sports screening days for student-athletes in the greater Charlotte area. Sports screenings are required by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association before participating in any athletic activity. On May 19 and June 2, Novant Health will provide these screenings free of charge at various clinic locations.
“The goal of the sports screening is to help maintain the health and safety of student-athletes in training and competition,” said Dr. Eric Warren, medical director for Novant Health Sports Medicine. “The screenings include a review of medical history, sports-specific medical screening, heart screening, musculoskeletal and vision exams. Students also have access to free baseline computerized neurocognitive testing (CNT) for concussions.”
Warren, who is dual credentialed in family medicine and sports medicine, will be joined by general medical and orthopedic physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, licensed athletic trainers and licensed physical therapists from Novant Health. All will provide and assist in the sports screenings.
Exams will be given Saturday, May 19, from 8 to 11:30 a.m. at Novant Health Arboretum Family & Sports Medicine, 7903 Providence Road, Charlotte.
Exams will be given Saturday, June 2, from 8 a.m. to noon at: Novant Health Waxhaw Family & Sports Medicine, 3614 Providence Road, Suite 200, Waxhaw; Novant Health Southern Piedmont Primary Care, 1995 Wellness Blvd., Building B, Suite 110, Monroe; and Novant Health Lakeside Family Physicians - Rosedale, 14330 Oakhill Park Lane, Suite 200B, Huntersville.
