Novant Health and High Point University have partnered to provide comprehensive wellness services for students, including orthopedic and sports medicine care for the university’s NCAA athletes. The five-year contract will begin in the 2019-2020 academic year.
Through the partnership, Novant Health will open the first year-round, full-service student health clinic on HPU campus. In addition to the appointments available at the clinic, students will have 24-hour access to virtual visits, by appointment and on-demand, through MyChart.
Earlier this month, Novant Health began medical oversight for High Point’s NCAA teams. Athletes will have access to quality sports medicine and health care services during training and games, prioritizing injury prevention and evaluation, including concussion management. Dr. Christopher Brumfield of Novant Health Orthopedics & Sports Medicine has been named medical director for the program.
“High Point University and Novant Health are both innovative organizations,” says Brad Calloway, senior vice president for business affairs at HPU. “This partnership creates several opportunities that include the growth of our health sciences programs with clinical rotations, a robust student health services program, and excellent care for our student athletes. We appreciate Novant Health and their comprehensive approach to health care at HPU and our community.”
Supporting health care careers
In addition to the student wellness services, HPU and Novant Health have committed to expanding clinical rotation availability for health care students in the areas of women’s health, pediatrics, family medicine, acute care, general surgery and emergency medicine.
“Our partnership with High Point University will bring the region’s best care to the university’s campus but it’s also an investment in the care of our community,” said Chad Setliff, president of Novant Health’s greater Winston-Salem market. “High Point University is training the health care leaders of tomorrow, many of whom will build careers and care for patients here in the Triad. Novant Health is committed to enriching HPU’s student training through clinical rotations for our community’s future providers.”
