An initiative to raise awareness of heart health through community education.
February is American Heart Month. As part of our mission to improve the health of our communities, one person at a time, Prince William Health System will host several events throughout February with the goal of educating the community about heart health, including tips on prevention for heart disease.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States; one in every three deaths is from heart disease and stroke, equal to 2,200 deaths per day. “As a health and wellness provider we play a critical role to help educate our community,” noted Melody Knapp, RN, Director of Heart and Vascular services. “We’ve made many advancements in our heart and vascular services and programs to take care of those who need it, but what we really want to do is offer resources so our community can avoid the need for intervention and prevent the need to travel outside their community for care. “We believe this starts with a conversation between individuals and physician experts to understand risk factors, symptoms and prevention.”
Prince William Hospital is a nationally recognized leader in heart and vascular services having earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Acute Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack) and Heart Failure. Our state-of-the-art Heart & Vascular Center is supported by an expert team of physicians, who are among the most respected in the region, along with our highly trained nurses and cardiovascular technologists. Patients and families no longer need to travel outside of our community for life-saving and quality of life procedures and treatment.
