Author of “Black Man in a White Coat” to speak at Novant Health

Winston-Salem, N.C., Oct. 19, 2016 – Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center announced today that in recognition of Diversity Awareness Month, the Novant Health African American business resource group will host an evening with Dr. Damon Tweedy, author of “Black Man in a White Coat” on Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Forsyth Medical Center.

Dr. Kathryn Brownlee joins Novant Health Cancer Specialists

Charlotte, N.C., Oct. 18, 2016 – Novant Health is pleased to welcome Dr. Kathryn Brownlee to Novant Health Cancer Specialists Matthews. Brownlee joined the clinic in September and is accepting new patients. The clinic is located at 1700 Matthews Township Pkwy in Matthews, North Carolina. The clinic is open Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

New technology at Novant Health improves surgical experience for breast cancer patients

Charlotte, N.C., Oct. 18, 2016 – Novant Health Cancer Care continues to demonstrate its commitment to offering the most advanced treatment options to patients with breast cancer by becoming the first hospital in North Carolina to use the new SAVI SCOUT radar localization system during breast conservation surgeries. An alternative to wire localization, SCOUT is an FDA-cleared device used by surgeons and radiologists to precisely locate and direct the removal of a tumor during a lumpectomy or surgical biopsy procedure.

After serving 20 years as a nurse at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center and its cancer center, Sharon Gentry, RN, MSN, AOCN, CBCN, knows how to answer those questions. As the organizer of the Novant Health Derrick L. Davis Cancer Center’s nurse navigation program, one of the first navigation programs in the state, she has consoled dozens of patients and their families.
