WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. ― Press Ganey has selected Novant Health as the recipient of the 2019 Press Ganey Culture of Engagement Award. The award recognizes and honors an organization that demonstrates innovative talent management and organizational development strategies in their delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care. Joy Greear, president and chief operating officer of Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center, and Karen Power, senior vice president of talent at Novant Health, received the award on behalf of Novant Health at the Press Ganey 2019 National Client & Executive Leadership Conferences on Nov. 18 in Orlando, Florida.

This aspiration has guided how we design, develop and execute a positive and productive culture within Novant Health.”
The 2019 Press Ganey Culture of Engagement Award evaluated organizations on innovation and the ability to create an engaged workforce through the following areas: human resources leadership, strategic talent practices, organization-wide integration, and commitment to advancing the safety, quality and experience of care for both patients and employees.
Over the last few years, Novant Health has taken significant strides to recruit, retain and engage team members. Some of these initiatives include:
- Leveraging social media to promote open interview days on LinkedIn, removing the barriers of a sometimes lengthy process once applicants submit resumes through the HR syste
- Creating a Career Path Planning program to chart a course for growth and advancement or to enhance performance in a current role
- Developing the Upward Mobility RN Scholarship program to support team members who aspire to be registered nurses (RNs) and are experiencing financial hardship
- Increasing the living wage, creating an opportunity for team members to have the means to both thrive in their communities and invest in their future
- Launching a resiliency program to prevent burnout, by providing awareness and coping mechanisms for team members
- Creating a nurse residency program for new nursing graduates aimed to ease transition from the classroom to the workplace
- Designing the Student Nurse Apprentice Program (SNAP) enable nursing students to gain clinical experience by participating in multiple clinical skills experiences
