Novant Health’s Cindy Averitt named Practitioner of the Year

BOLIVIA, N.C. ― Cindy Averitt, a registered respiratory therapist at Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center, was named Practitioner of the Year by the North Carolina Society for Respiratory Care (NCSRC).

The Practitioner of the Year is awarded to a respiratory care practitioner who possesses special skills, exhibits extra commitment to patients, and who motivates, inspires and leads other practitioners.

“I am proud to work with such an enthusiastic and caring therapist,” said Mary Wayne, a fellow Novant Health team member who nominated Averitt for the award. “I admire her bedside manner and she has been recognized by our patients many times for the care they received.”

Averitt’s exceptional bedside manner hasn’t gone unnoticed. She received an honorable mention for Brunswick Medical Center’s BEE Award after being nominated by one of the many patients speaking highly of their care. The BEE Award recognizes a team member who provides exceptional compassionate care and is awarded to CNAs and medical unit receptionists, as well as team members in patient access, administration, public safety, engineering and more.

Averitt has 30 years of experience in respiratory therapy, yet she hasn’t stopped trying to reach new goals in her career. She just completed her first semester at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for her bachelor’s degree in respiratory therapy. Averitt excelled in her classes and was named to the dean’s list.

The NCSRC encourages and promotes professional excellence, advances the science and practice of respiratory care and serves as an advocate for the patients, their families, the public, the profession and respiratory therapists of the state.
