Each year, Charlotte Magazine surveys licensed physicians in the Charlotte area to find out which of their peers they would choose if they or a loved one needed care. Physicians receive an online survey and are asked to make their selections without regard to hospital, clinic or health plan affiliations. Only 7 to 10 percent of area physicians in the featured specialties are selected to the list.

At a recent volunteer appreciation banquet, Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center leaders recognized the hospital’s 143 volunteers for the 18,300 hours of time they contributed to the hospital in 2011.

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a new treatment option for people with severe aortic stenosis who cannot undergo surgery Cardiologists and cardiac surgeons at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center are now performing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) with the Edwards SAPIEN valve, approved by the Food and Drug Administration in November, 2011. Earlier this month, doctors successfully performed two procedures; both patients are recovering and are in good condition.
