Hospital to Dedicate New Healing and Respite Courtyard The public is invited to Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center’s dedication of a healing and respite courtyard located on their campus and generously donated by the hospital’s Foundation and volunteers. The dedication will be celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony and light refreshments on Thursday, September 19, at 10 a.m.

Project completes three years ahead of schedule and under budget Novant Health completed its electronic health record rollout at its physician clinics this summer – three years ahead of schedule and under budget. The medical group, spanning from Virginia to South Carolina, now has 343 clinics and 1,441 providers live on its electronic practice management system and 316 clinics and 1,205 providers using its electronic health record.

Twenty-five year veteran in marketing, communications and business development to lead hospital system’s unified brand efforts Novant Health has hired David Duvall as the new senior vice president of marketing and communications. Duvall has more than 25 years of experience in marketing, communications and business development. He replaces Jim Tobalski who recently retired after 13 years of service.

Novant Health has partnered with Charlotte Soccer Academy (CSA) to provide advanced medical care during CSA tournaments. Novant Health Sports Medicine certified athletic trainers will be on-site to care for injuries and illnesses at these events. Tournaments include the club’s Dick’s Sporting Goods Charlotte Invitational and Adidas Cup soccer tournaments as well as golf tournaments that serve as fundraisers for the club. Additionally, Novant Health Sports Medicine will offer first aid and CPR training to all CSA coaches as well as ImPACT™ concussion testing and 24-hour support for health-related concerns for CSA athletes.

Bobcats Wellness Clinic provides free screenings and wellness activities to Charlotte community On Saturday, Aug. 17, from 8 a.m. to noon, Novant Health will sponsor the Bobcats Wellness Clinic at Time Warner Cable Arena. The health fair is free and open to the public and will feature a variety of health screenings, wellness activities, entertainment and giveaways. The first 500 guests will receive a voucher for two lower-level tickets to a Bobcats 2013-14 regular season home game. From 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. the Bobcats will host an autograph session with a member of the team.

Cancer Risk Clinic Aims to Minimize Chance of Developing Cancer in High-Risk Patients Many cancers develop from genetic mutations or hereditary traits that can exponentially increase a person’s risk of developing cancer in their lifetime. People with these biological predispositions to certain cancers can greatly reduce their chance of developing the illness with proper knowledge, precaution and planning.

Each year, Charlotte Magazine surveys licensed physicians in the Charlotte area to find out which of their peers they would choose if they or a loved one needed care. Physicians receive an online survey and are asked to make their selections without regard to hospital, clinic or health plan affiliations. Only 7 to 10 percent of area physicians in the featured specialties are selected to the list.

At a recent volunteer appreciation banquet, Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center leaders recognized the hospital’s 143 volunteers for the 18,300 hours of time they contributed to the hospital in 2011.
