Cats Care Foundation Donation to Help Provide Health Services for Nearly 1,000 Project L.I.F.T. Students Bobcats Sports & Entertainment and its Cats Care Foundation made a $140,000 donation to the Novant Health Community Care Cruiser earlier this afternoon at Bruns Academy in Charlotte. The Novant Health Community Care Cruiser delivers quality preventive healthcare to youth who attend Charlotte’s nine Project L.I.F.T schools in underserved communities across the Charlotte area. The donation was raised through the Cats Care Foundation’s annual “My Hero Gala,” which took place on October 26, 2013.

The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery renews Presbyterian Medical Center’s accreditation Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center has been named a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence (BSCOE) for the third time since first receiving the designation in 2007. This renewed accreditation, granted by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), acknowledges Novant Health’s commitment to providing high-quality and safe care for bariatric surgery patients that exceeds clinical benchmarks and guidelines.

Novant Health announced today a new shared services agreement with Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden, N.C. Today, Novant Health announced it is declaring war on high blood pressure, prediabetes and obesity as part of a multi-year, system-wide community health initiative designed to create an epidemic of health and wellness. The statistics are alarming. One out of every three Americans age 20 and older has prediabetes. Additionally, one in three has hypertension and more than one-third of U.S. adults are considered obese. Serious health implications can include organ and nerve damage, loss of limbs and blindness. These three health conditions combined account for approximately $266 billion in annual U.S. medical costs and contribute to hundreds of thousands of deaths per year.

Families with infants in the Hemby Neonatal Intensive Care Unit will have a private place of respite A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Dec. 10 to celebrate the grand opening of Tucker’s Room – the newly renovated waiting room for families with infants in the Novant Health Hemby Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). A $100,000 donation from Speedway Children’s Charities funded the renovation, as well as three isolettes for the NICU.

Halifax Regional Medical Center and Novant Health announced today that they intend to merge after a formal process led by the Halifax Regional Board to select a strategic partner. Following a one-year management agreement during which due diligence will be completed, Halifax Regional Medical Center intends to merge with Novant Health.

Former Novant Health Board of Trustees Chairman and State Senator Peter S. Brunstetter to lead legal team Novant Health has hired Peter S. Brunstetter as the new executive vice president and chief legal counsel for the organization. Brunstetter has been an attorney for nearly 30 years and has served in the North Carolina State Senate since 2006. He replaces Larry McGee who recently retired from Novant Health.
