Novant Health to Host 17th Annual John Campbell Memorial Classic

Salisbury, NC, March 11, 2015 – Novant Health Foundation Rowan Medical Center will host its 17th annual John Campbell Memorial Golf Classic on Friday, May 1 at the Country Club of Salisbury, building on a successful heritage that has raised nearly $1.4 million in the past 16 years. First-time presenting sponsor will be VEP Healthcare, Inc.

“We are confident this year’s Campbell Classic will continue its tradition of being an enjoyable golf outing that raises significant funds for Rowan Medical Center,” said Rick Parker, foundation director. “From equipment upgrades to operating room enhancements, dollars raised from this golf tournament are improving healthcare in our community.”

“We are proud and excited to be a first-time sponsor of this event, just as we are proud to partner with Rowan Medical Center to provide high quality emergency care to their community,” said Rachel McKinney, VEP Healthcare’s Chief Operating Officer. VEP Healthcare offers emergency and hospitalist department management programs to their partner hospitals and communities in locations from coast-to-coast.

David Bolick and Ryan Rich, MD, are co-chairmen of this year’s event and, along with their steering committee, have designed a four-man flighted, Captain’s Choice tournament. The player fees are $175 each or $700 for a foursome with a morning shotgun start at 8 a.m. and an afternoon shotgun start at 1:30 p.m.

Funds raised from the 2015 Campbell Classic will be used to purchase new equipment for the surgical services unit at Rowan Medical Center. This equipment will include a state-of-the-art operating table that enables surgeons to perform a wide range of surgical procedures ranging from orthopedic trauma to bariatric cases. A portion of the proceeds will also fund the John A. Campbell Jr. Memorial College Scholarship program. A Rowan County senior from each high school will receive a $1,000 scholarship to the college of their choice.

Several holes throughout the course have been selected as “competition holes” for contests such as longest drive, closest to the pin and fastest hole played. Prizes will be awarded for each category, as well as additional challenges such as hole-in-one and the longest putt.

Post-tournament festivities will include a family-friendly cookout featuring live entertainment and children’s activities and award presentations to each golfer on the first place team of each flight. The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Campbell Cup.

The John Campbell Memorial Golf Classic is held in honor of the late John A. Campbell, Jr., who served as executive director of the medical center’s foundation until his death in 1998. He was 43 years old.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available and range from $1,000 to $3,500. Visit NovantHealth.org/rowanevents or call 704-210-6880 for more information and to register.
