WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – All eligible Novant Health hospitals have been recognized in the inaugural 2022 Best Hospitals and Surgery Centers for Billing Ethics list by magazine and online news source, Money and national nonprofit watchdog organization, The Leapfrog Group.
The list was compiled using data from the 2022 Leapfrog Hospital Survey and 2022 Leapfrog Ambulatory Surgery Center Survey. All eligible hospitals were required to have an A or B letter grade on the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assessment for fall 2022, in addition to meeting certain billing ethics standards.

A survey of more than 2,200 hospitals and surgery centers throughout the country yielded an elite group of 565 top hospitals and 10 ambulatory surgery centers. Top hospitals and ASCs were evaluated based on their fulfillment of person-centered care.
Specifically, hospitals were scored on the quality of the billing statement, the availability of a billing representative to assist a patient with their bill and the frequency of legal action against patients for late or insufficient payment of medical bills. ASCs were assessed on the transparency of fees and services on their facility website, billing timelines, billing negotiation availability and instances of legal action.
