WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Anita Prendergast has been named chief executive officer of the 68-bed rehabilitation hospital being built by HealthSouth and Novant Health at 2475 Hillcrest Center Circle.
In her position as CEO, she will oversee all of the day-to-day operations as well as patient quality and care for the future physical inpatient rehabilitation hospital. A seasoned healthcare leader in the Winston-Salem area, Prendergast brings more than 19 years of service with Novant Health in various management roles. She earned a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from The Ohio State University and a master’s degree in health administration from Central Michigan University.
“Anita’s many years of experience working in the rehabilitation sector are a great benefit to providing top notch care to our patients and a strong foundation to the team at the rehabilitation hospital,” said Ed Mowen, president of the MidAtlantic region for HealthSouth. “We look forward to transitioning into our new hospital next year and delivering seamless comprehensive rehabilitative care for those requiring our services through this joint venture with Novant Health.”
Patients will transfer from the rehabilitation unit currently located at the Novant Health Rehabilitation Center at 3333 Silas Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem to the newly constructed hospital upon completion. The hospital will serve patients who are recovering from conditions such as stroke and other neurological disorders, brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, complex orthopedic conditions, and cardiac and pulmonary conditions.
HealthSouth currently provides post-acute healthcare services in 36 states and Puerto Rico through its network of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, home health agencies, and hospice agencies. While the company currently operates four home health agencies in the state, this will be HealthSouth’s first inpatient rehabilitation hospital in North Carolina.
