WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., – Highland Avenue Primary Care and local community partners will host the first Highland Avenue Fall into a Healthier You Block Party Saturday, Oct. 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 650 N. Highland Ave.
The community block party is free and open to the public and will feature flu shots, health screenings, food, clothing and prizes. Participants can also receive employment, food and health care assistance, free mobile mammograms, Medicaid enrollment assistance and help from many more local resources. The community is also invited to tour the clinic, mingle with team members and take part in kid’s activities.
“Highland Avenue Primary Care is committed to providing for the traditionally underserved health care needs of the east Winston-Salem community,” said Travis Howell, MD, physician market leader of Novant Health community health and wellness institute in the greater Winston-Salem market. “Novant Health is proud to support this clinic and our goal with the block party is to raise awareness about the convenient, low-cost services that the clinic has to offer."
Highland Avenue Primary Care, which opened one year ago today as a joint venture between Novant Health and Wake Forest Baptist Health, offers convenient, high quality primary care services, including on-site X-ray and lab work at reduced prices for patients without insurance. The clinic also accepts Medicaid, Medicare and most other insurances.
“This clinic is a great example of two health care systems partnering together to better serve our community,” said Richard Lord, MD, vice president of population health and primary care at Wake Forest Baptist Health. “Those who live in this area have traditionally not had easy access to health care, so we are pleased to be part of this event to let more people know about the many services they can receive here.”
Highland Avenue Primary Care serves patients of all ages and is housed at 650 N. Highland Ave., Suite 120, within a 43,000-square-foot building owned by Forsyth County. Also in the building is a 24/7 behavioral health urgent care facility, operated by Daymark Recovery Services, and Cardinal Innovations Healthcare’s Triad Community Office and Wellness Center.
Other host agencies at the block party will include the Forsyth County Public Health Department, Forsyth County Department of Social Services, First Baptist Church, Cardinal Innovations, Daymark Recovery Services, Ministers’ Conference of Winston-Salem, AmeriHealth Caritas, Blue Cross Blue Shield Healthy Blue, UnitedHealthcare and WellCare.
