New Hanover Regional Medical Center board votes for Novant Health

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. ― Last night, the New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC) board voted to support the July 2 recommendation by the Partnership Advisory Group (PAG) that NHRMC partner with Novant Health.

“We’d like to thank the PAG and New Hanover Regional Medical Center board of trustees for selecting Novant Health as their partner for the future,” said Carl Armato, president and CEO of Novant Health. “Over the last few days, we’ve been speaking to people in the greater Wilmington community about our proposal to bring understanding and excitement for the future of healthcare in this region. We see the opportunities that we have to address the health challenges facing the region. Together we will tackle food deserts, opioid and other addiction issues, and increase access to affordable care in New Hanover, Brunswick, Pender, Bladen, Duplin, Onslow and Columbus counties.”

The process for determining a partner for NHRMC has been intentional and well-thought-out. Following the request for proposals, the PAG evaluated the submitted responses on 18 measures. The proposals were made public, and the three finalists presented their plans in a public hearing.

“Novant Health looks forward to working with commissioners to enhance health equity, economic development, affordability, addressing unmet healthcare needs, and delivering value to all of the people who live and work in New Hanover County,” Armato added. "We also look forward to working with local physicians to support our shared goals of delivering exceptional care to the region."
