Nine Novant Health facilities have been recognized by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) for their success in using Get With The Guidelines® to improve quality of care and outcomes for heart failure and stroke patients. The awards recognize a hospital’s commitment and success in ensuring patients receive the most appropriate treatment for stroke and heart failure according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines built on the latest scientific evidence.
According to AHA/ASA, heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States, with stroke following closely at number five. To receive a Quality Achievement Award, hospitals must meet 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get with the Guidelines achievement indicators. The indicators were designed with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for patients.
The different achievement levels for Get With The Guidelines-Heart Failure and Get With The Guidelines-Stroke – Bronze, Silver, Silver Plus, Gold and Gold Plus – reflect the amount of time a hospital has successfully maintained compliance to the guidelines.
