Novant Health announces leadership and organization changes

CHARLOTTE, NC, May 4, 2015 – In response to changes in the healthcare environment; Novant Health has announced an organization realignment which follows a patient care team model focused on improved quality, safety, convenience and affordability for their patients. 

“I believe this new operational team model will serve to accelerate our continued strong performance by helping us to achieve our full potential as a progressive, integrated health system, providing a reliable remarkable patient experience,” said Jeff Lindsay Novant Health executive vice president and chief operating officer. “We’ve asked senior leaders to step into new roles and evolve responsibilities that will transition us to a fully integrated healthcare system.”  

As part of the new model Novant Health has named Andy Mueller, MD as senior vice president of its greater Charlotte market which includes three hospitals, 914 patient beds and more than 600 physician clinics and several outpatient facilities. He is currently the senior vice president of physician services and will retain responsibility for this area in conjunction with his new position. 

Leading Novant Health’s greater Winston-Salem market as senior vice president is Stephen J. Motew, MD, MHA. The Winston-Salem market includes six hospitals, 1,407 patient beds and more than 500 physician clinics. Motew is currently the senior vice president of physician services for physician clinics and will retain responsibility for this area in conjunction with his new position. He also will continue as a vascular surgeon with Novant Health Vascular Specialists.  

In these redesigned roles, both Dr. Mueller and Dr. Motew will have responsibilities for strategic growth and development of their regions, overall community efforts and service lines, in addition to their existing medical group leadership responsibilities.

Filling out the operational leadership team, the following leaders have assume new lateral positions in the organization:

·         Michele Langford will serve as senior vice president of Novant Health Acute Services leading integration of the new organizational structure. Previously Langford was senior vice president of clinical operations

·         Denise Mihal transitions to the role of senior vice president of clinical operations working directly with Novant Health’s facility nursing officers and surgical services leaders across the health system Mihal’s previous role was as the president of the Winston Salem market

·         Harry Smith, previously president of Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center and the Charlotte market, has moved to senior vice president responsible for professional and support services for the Novant Health system.

As part of the model transition, Novant Health has named new leaders of their two largest medical centers. Paula Vincent transitions from the Novant Health Foundation president to be the senior vice president and chief operating officer of Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte and Sean Sanz is the senior vice president and chief operating officer for Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, moving from the Winston Salem market’s chief operating officer position.

·         Hank Capps, Jr., MD was also named senior vice president and chief operation officer of Novant Health Medical Group. Previously Capps was the senior vice president of physician services and Chief Medical Officer of the medical group.
