Charlotte, NC – August 4, 2014 - Novant Health Cancer Care is the recent recipient of a $15,000 grant from GreaterGood.org, an organization dedicated to improving the well-being of people, pets and the planet. This grant helps provide screening mammograms and diagnostic procedures to women 35 and older who are economically disadvantaged or uninsured. Additionally, the grant supports breast self-awareness education efforts aimed at increasing the likelihood participants will seek clinical breast examinations and annual screening mammograms.
“Cancer can affect anyone, regardless of their financial status, “said Maria Kuklinski-Long, manager of Novant Health’s cancer prevention and early detection program.” This grant gives us the opportunity to provide life-saving screenings to a patient population that wouldn’t normally have access.”
Each year, one out of every eight women living in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer, and approximately 40,000 lose their lives to the disease. There is no clinically proven way to prevent breast cancer, but experts agree that early detection increases the survival rate of those diagnosed.
Screening mammograms and diagnostics for uninsured and under-insured women will be offered at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center, and Novant Health Matthews Medical Center.
