WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Underscoring Novant Health’s commitment to safety and quality, the healthcare system received nine “A” Hospital Safety Grades from the national, independent organization, The Leapfrog Group for its Fall 2022 Hospital Safety Grade scoring period.
This scoring period marks Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center and Novant Health Medical Park Hospital achieving 14 consecutive A’s over the past seven years. It also marks Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center and Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center for receiving eight consecutive A’s over the past four years.
Evaluated for safety, quality and patient experience, The Leapfrog Group assigns grades to hospitals throughout the United States, based on a hospital’s ability to prevent medical errors and harm to patients. Hospital Safety Grade results are based on more than 30 national performance measures and are updated each fall and spring. Letter grades ranging from A to F are assigned to U.S. hospitals based on their ability to prevent errors, injuries, accidents and infections, and improve patient satisfaction.
“Novant Health celebrates our dedicated physicians, nurses, advanced practice clinicians, pharmacists and clinical team members who help us achieve these high national scores, and ultimately to keep our patients safe,” said Dr. Eric Eskioglu, executive vice president and chief medical and scientific officer for Novant Health. “We are especially proud of the consecutive scores spanning several years, achieved by many of our facilities this year.”
Novant Health continues to focus on hospital-acquired infection reduction by standardizing procedures based on best practices; re-educating clinical team members, which is an important component of patient safety and remarkable care; and implementing new strategies and technologies such as artificial intelligence to improve quality and safety.
