Novant Health board of trustees adds new members

Winston-Salem, N.C., Dec. 9, 2015 – Novant Health, a not-for-profit healthcare system serving the Carolinas, Virginia and Georgia, has added three new voting board of trustee members: Thomas David Neill, of Bob Neill Inc., Laura A. Schulte, retired Wells Fargo executive, and Deborah McQuitter Ally of United Way Gaston County. Terms begin Jan. 1, 2016 and end Dec. 31, 2018.

Neill is currently the president of Bob Neill Inc., an operator of automobile dealerships. Neill has served on numerous boards and capital campaign committees in Winston-Salem, including the United Way of Forsyth County, Forsyth Country Day School, Summit School and the Winston-Salem Foundation, Winston-Salem Alliance, Winston-Salem Business Inc. and Twin City Youth Soccer Association. Neill currently serves as chairman of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utility Commission. He is also a member of the Rotary Club of Winston-Salem and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Schulte currently serves as an executive management business adviser and consultant for the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, as well as for commercial real estate developer Grubb Properties Inc. She retired at the end of 2014 from Wells Fargo to pursue consulting, mentoring and teaching. Schulte has been a guest lecturer at Queens University and frequently speaks to business organizations including the Women’s Presidents Organization and the Harvard Business School alumni chapter.

Schulte currently serves on the Grubb Properties board of directors, board of trustees and executive committee. She is also an advisory board committee member for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, the Foundation for the Carolinas and the University of Nebraska Business School. She serves on the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art advisory board and Charlotte Country Day School board of trustees. She has received a number of awards during her career, including being named to the Top 25 Most Powerful Women in Banking and Top 25 Women to Watch in Banking (US Banker Magazine) and Charlotte Businesswoman of the Year.

Ally is currently president and CEO of United Way Gaston County. She serves on the board of directors, on the executive committee and as treasurer for the Gaston Regional Chamber of Commerce. She also serves on the executive committee and as chairwoman of the leadership committee for Gaston Together. Ally serves on the Gaston County transportation advisory board, the Novant Health metro advisory board, the Wells Fargo advisory board and as the chairwoman of the Gaston County Emergency Food and Shelter program local board.

Ally is a member of the United Way of North Carolina public policy committee, of Gaston Together, of the Gaston County Healthcare Commission and of the Gaston County Cooperative Extension advisory council. She is also a member the Rotary Club of Gastonia, St. Stephens AME Zion Church, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and is the 2014-2016 president of the Piedmont Chapter of the Links, Inc. Ally has received the distinguished honor of being selected by the Gaston County commissioners as a 2014 William Gaston Award recipient.
