Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center adds electric car charging stations

Bolivia, N.C., Jan. 27 – Two new electric car charging stations have been added to Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center’s parking lot. These are the first electric car charging stations at Novant Health.

Each station can charge two cars at once and is available for use by all patients, visitors and team members. The idea to bring the charging stations to Novant Health originated with Dr. Lydia Laboccetta of Novant Health Urology Partners, who drives an electric car.

“We are always looking for new and innovative ways to serve our patients, visitors and team members,” said Shelbourn Stevens, president, Brunswick Medical Center. “More people are driving electric cars. Offering the charging stations is one way we can make visiting our facility easier and more convenient.”

Even during the construction of the hospital, leaders at Brunswick Medical Center sought ways to make the facility more environmentally friendly by installing automatic lights, energy efficient equipment and a retention pond for irrigation. The hospital opened in July 2011.

“Brunswick Medical Center is one of the largest organizations and employers in the county,” Stevens said. “And, as such, we seek to be a good steward of the environment by offering a number of green initiatives.”

Novant Health Foundation Brunswick Medical Center allocated the funds to install the charging stations. The stations were installed by Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation and are free to use.
