“The value of patient education is endless and results in improved understanding of diagnosis, improved compliance with treatments, improved patient outcomes with fewer complications, improved patient satisfaction, and more effective use of medical services to include fewer hospital admissions and readmissions,” said Stephanie McLeod, RN, chief nursing officer for Brunswick Medical Center.
First-year funding for the patient education channels has been provided by the Novant Health Foundation Brunswick Medical Center, which seeks to go beyond the walls of the hospital in helping to improve the health of the community.
The channels will be provided in every patient room and waiting room, and the content will also be available online to patients and community members. The online content for The Patient Channel can be accessed by visiting thepatientchannelnow.com and using password 41299, while The Newborn Channel can be accessed by visiting thenewbornchannelnow.com and using password 41299.
“This new tool will complement our existing patient education tools in ensuring we deliver reliable, focused, and easy-to-understand instructions that our patients can use,” McLeod said. “We are very grateful to the Foundation for funding this project, and we are encouraging community members and patients to take advantage of this resource by visiting the websites at home as well.”
