Winston-Salem, NC – On January 1, 2015, Novant Health President and CEO Carl Armato will join the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) Health Care Systems Governing Council. The Governing Council provides valuable input on policy issues and advises the AHA on advocacy positions, emerging issues and member service strategies. The council is comprised of 20 leaders representing health care systems across the U.S. Armato will serve on the council for three years.
The AHA is a national professional association made up of nearly 5,000 hospitals, health care systems, networks, other providers of care and 43,000 individual members. AHA works with its members, state, regional, and metropolitan hospital associations and other organizations to shape and influence federal legislation and regulation to improve the ability of its members to deliver quality health care.
“It is an honor to have the opportunity to sit on the Heath Care Systems Governing Council,” said Armato. “Our nation faces significant challenges in the health care arena. As health care providers, Governing Council members can help the AHA shape our future and put patients back at the center of patient care.”
Armato has served in several leadership roles at Novant Health since joining the organization in 1998. The board of trustees appointed him to his current position in January 2012. Prior to joining Novant Health, Armato was vice president of operations for First Care Physicians and director of finance for the General Health System in Baton Rouge, LA. He was also a senior tax/audit consultant for Ernst & Young in the Baton Rouge office. Armato holds a Bachelor of Business Administration - Accounting from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and a Master of Business Administration from Norwich University of Vermont.
