Participating high schools include Monroe, Porter Ridge, Cuthbertson, Weddington, Forest Hills, Providence and East Mecklenburg.
“Novant Health currently partners with Union County Public Schools to provide advanced sports medicine care and on-site certified athletic trainers for many of the teams competing in this invitational,” explains Mike Riley, Novant Health Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital president. “This sponsorship further demonstrates our commitment to the students of Union County.”
The tournament begins Friday, December 19 with four of the Union County schools hosting the first round of games on their own courts. Rounds two and three on December 26 and 27 will take place at Monroe High School. Only one team will go undefeated during the tournament and claim the Novant Health Championship Trophy.
“Our goal was to put together a top notch tournament, and I feel confident that we have succeeded,” explains Mark Stafford, owner of 151 Sports Marketing, the company that organized and promotes the annual invitational. “The competition should be outstanding as you have a field of evenly matched basketball teams involved.”
