WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. ― Novant Health has been named one of the three Corporate Champions for Women & Children by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GWFC) of North Carolina. Organizations recognized as Corporate Champions for Women & Children are selected for their support and assistance to women and children across the state of North Carolina.
“It is an honor for Novant Health to be recognized as a Corporate Champion for Women and Children,” said Pat Campbell, vice president of the Women’s & Children’s Institute for Novant Health. “At Novant Health, we understand the unique needs of women. With services spanning pediatrics, teen girls, maternity care and senior women, our health specialists use their expertise to provide focused care, helping women live longer, healthier lives at each and every stage of their life.”
Over the past several years, Novant Health has dedicated significant resources for women and children through the Novant Health Foundations and community partnerships. Programs like Forsyth Connects in Winston-Salem, which provides home visits for mothers and babies from nurses within 21 days post-discharge, connect families to nurturing community resources. Novant Health also offers programs to support breastfeeding, including Baby Cafes, which are free resources for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers to get support from lactation consultants; as well as a partnership with Johnson C. Smith University to enhance the diversity of lactation consultants within the industry.
Novant Health has also taken many steps to educate and ensure remarkable care for young girls. The organization in 2018 opened Novant Health Waughtown Pediatrics, a convenient Forsyth County clinic for patients with transportation challenges that provides needed services for patients who do not speak English. Novant Health offers Girlology, a program that explains reproductive health to girls ages 8 to 12. The course is provided at no cost and is offered in English and Spanish.
In addition to the previously mentioned, Novant Health’s presence in the community is very strong. The system provides a variety of opportunities for students and other members of the community to learn more about our women’s and children’s services, including offering monthly postpartum seminars, midwifery and sexual health seminars. All of the women’s and children’s education materials are available in Spanish.
The GFWC of North Carolina is part of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC), which is one of the world’s largest and oldest nondenominational, nonpartisan, international women’s volunteer service organization. With more than 140 clubs throughout North Carolina, clubwomen have been dedicated to community improvement through volunteer service since 1902.
