Winston-Salem, North Carolina, January 9, 2015 – Novant Health announced today a shared services agreement with Mon Health System in Morgantown, West Virginia. Novant Health Shared Services will assist Mon Health in enhancing their physician partnerships by optimizing practice performance, growing the physician network and strengthening collaboration with independent physicians. In addition, the organizations will focus on improving the affordability of care and share operational best practices.
“Novant Health is excited to work in partnership with Mon Health System, recognizing that past geographic boundaries do not define the breadth and reach of health system collaboration that is needed in an environment of transformation,” said Patrick Easterling, president of Novant Health Shared Services. “We believe our cultures, values and missions are well-aligned and that this partnership will position us both for continued success.
“As the realities of health care reform settle in, progressive health systems are seeking new models of partnership that enable best practice sharing, while challenging historical perspectives to chart future health care delivery models.” Additionally, Easterling noted: “Through the use of our proprietary physician practice analytics tool, we’ll be able to improve care coordination and identify operational improvements at the Mon Health physician practices.”
“This new collaboration will continue to improve health care for the patients we serve in Morgantown and the north central region of West Virginia through a shared vision focused on physician practice operations, greater efficiency and best practice collaboration,” said Darryl L. Duncan, president and CEO of Mon Health System. “An affiliation with Novant Health will make Mon Health System an even more effective partner in maintaining and improving the health of the communities we serve. While we are already recognized as a leader in providing quality care and patient satisfaction in an environment focused on safety, we also know healthcare in general is too expensive. We intend to leverage this relationship with Novant Health to make our organization a leader in delivering value to the consumer.”
Beyond operational synergies, the partnership creates a stronger physician management practice, allowing physician practices to serve patients better and align with the health care needs of the community.
“I was impressed with Novant Health’s demonstrated ability in other markets to partner with physicians and grow the medical group into an integrated part of the overall system,” Duncan said.
Novant Health Shared Services aims to assist independent health care organizations through a wide range of affiliation models. With a customizable approach, Novant Health Shared Services partners with hospitals and the communities they serve to improve affordability, improve quality, and ensure local access to care. By leveraging the scale and efficiencies of a national leader in the healthcare industry, these innovative partnerships deliver tangible value while preserving local market ownership and autonomy.
