CHARLOTTE, N.C. – As a not-for-profit health care leader providing patients with remarkable care, Novant Health is proud of its legacy of successful partnerships with physicians and providers. This commitment to collaboration with our medical community includes independent physician practices, as well as the nearly 2,600 providers employed within the Novant Health Medical Group at more than 580 locations.
Given this focus on physician-led care, the recent resignations of 41 Novant Health physicians from multiple Novant Health Medical Group clinics and their decision to join Holston Medical Group was unexpected. However, we value and respect these physicians and are working to ensure a smooth transition from the organization.
Novant Health’s top priority is our patients and families. Therefore, the health system has made the decision to transfer some of our physician offices and medical clinic lease agreements to the departing physicians on mutually acceptable terms with an anticipated effective date of May 31 at 5 p.m. This will ensure physicians have a place to see patients and practice medicine, thus minimizing any disruption due to the change. More than 900 Novant Health physicians will continue to serve patients and families across the greater Charlotte area, including several of our current north Mecklenburg County locations, ensuring patients have a choice in their health care provider.
Novant Health will continue to have clinic locations at Lakeside Family Physicians – Antiquity, Jetton, Rosedale, Denver and Mooresville. All other Lakeside Family Physicians and Huntersville OB/GYN locations will be served by the 41 physicians who have decided to join the out-of-state competitor. All “Novant Health Lakeside Primary Care” locations are not involved in this situation and are remaining with Novant Health Medical Group.
Providing remarkable care to our patients is our promise and we honor this commitment, even if our contractual relationship with physicians change. Our belief is that we will continue to have the opportunity to provide care to all patients and work collaboratively with the medical community to improve the health of our communities.
