Community invited to participate in events and activities planned in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Charlotte, N.C. Oct. 1, 2015 – Novant Health is raising awareness about the importance of breast health by supporting several community events and hosting educational classes throughout the month of October. In celebration of breast cancer survivors everywhere, all three Novant Health hospitals in the greater Charlotte area will be lit in pink throughout October.
The health care system is a proud sponsor for various upcoming events, including the 19th Annual Komen Charlotte Race for the Cure® held Saturday, Oct. 3, in uptown Charlotte and the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk to be held Saturday, Oct. 17, also in uptown Charlotte.
In addition, the following programs, classes and special events will be offered at local Novant Health facilities:
Dinner with a doctor: Learn about breast health | Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Novant Health Matthews Medical Center, Café Solarium, 1500 Matthews Township Parkway, Matthews
Join Dr. Nicole Abinanti and Dr. Carolyn Menendez as they discuss breast screening recommendations for women and men, as well as diagnostic imaging with mammography, tomography, ultrasound and MRI. A night of beauty | Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Breast cancer support groups | Varied times
Novant Health Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center, 242 S. Colonial Ave., Charlotte
Whether you’re a cancer patient, family member or caring friend, the Novant Health Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center offers a variety of support groups for you. The Bosom Buddies group meets on Wednesdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. with a potluck lunch served every second Wednesday of the month.
