Winston-Salem, N.C., July 7, 2016 – Novant Health has been recognized by the American Hospital Association for its adoption, implementation and use of information technology (IT) in the delivery of health care . The prestigious award is conferred to hospitals based on the annual Most Wired survey, an industry-standard benchmark study. The survey is designed to measure the level of IT adoption in U.S. hospitals and health systems, and is used as a tool for hospital and health system leadership to map their IT strategic plans.
The survey assessed Novant Health for its use of IT in the areas of infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety and clinical integration. Recipients of the Most Wired award will be featured in the July issue of Hospitals & Health Networks magazine.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by the healthcare community for our adoption, implementation and use of information technology in the delivery of care to our patients,” said Dave Garrett, senior vice president and chief information officer at Novant Health. “Providers need the most up-to-date information when caring for patients and that is why we are committed to providing them with the best delivery system possible.”
Hospital & Health Networks sponsors the annual survey and Health Forum, an information company associated with the American Hospital Association, distributes the survey and collects and analyzes the data. Using the input, Health Forum develops benchmarks that are becoming the industry standard for measuring IT adoption for operational, financial and clinical performance in healthcare delivery systems.
This year’s survey found that technology is improving the efficiency of care delivery and creating new dynamics in patient interaction. Increasingly, Most Wired hospitals are using telehealth – that’s the delivery of health care via video to fill the gaps in patient care, expanding access to medical specialists and providing services around the clock.
Additionally, Most Wired hospitals are redefining the way they provide care in the community by using technology to build patient engagement minding an individual’s lifestyle while providing electronic access to a medical care team.
The survey also revealed Most Wired hospitals are using population health management tools and sharing critical clinical information with other health care providers for at-risk populations.
Finally, the vast majority of hospitals surveyed are taking strong precautions to preserve security of health data using intrusion detection systems and performing security audits.
