Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center names new president

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Michael Arno has been named interim president of Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center (NHTMC). Arno brings more than 20 years of leadership experience with community hospitals and healthcare systems.

Arno replaces Kathie Johnson, who served as president at NHTMC for the past seven years. “Thomasville Medical Center has a long standing reputation for delivering remarkable care,” said Arno.

“I appreciate everyone’s warm welcome, and am eager to get involved with the community and make it home,” he said. “I recognize that we have a talented team of professionals on staff, and know that together we will strengthen our commitment to meeting the healthcare needs of our community.”

Arno most recently served as CEO of Sheikh Khalifa General Hospital in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He led the startup and setup of the hospital and conducted one of the first AHRQ Culture of Safety Surveys in the UAE, which identified the hospital as having a hospital safety culture on par with U.S. hospitals. He has also served as interim CEO at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin, North Carolina, and held leadership roles at Presence Health System (formerly Provena Health) in Kankakee, Illinois, Community Health Systems, and Hospital Corporation of America.

Arno has gained a reputation for operational excellence and has been recognized for his ability to build a common vision among stakeholders, develop physician partnerships, create a high-performance culture and empower teams to succeed.

Michael Arno holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Franklin & Marshall College located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He also obtained a master’s degree in business administration and health administration from the University of Colorado in Denver, Colorado. He is also a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Administration.
