Paula Bird named vice president of behavioral health services for Novant Health

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Novant Health has named Paula Bird vice president of behavioral health services. In this role, Bird will be responsible for nursing care provided in Novant Health’s five inpatient psychiatric units, as well as integration efforts for behavioral health within all Novant Health facilities, standardizing behavioral health across the system.

“I am excited to welcome Paula Bird to the Novant Health team,” said Denise Mihal, executive vice president and chief nursing and clinical operations officer of Novant Health. “She brings more than 30 years of experience as a psychiatric and mental health nurse, leader and teacher to Novant Health. Paula’s experience and depth of knowledge will be a tremendous asset to help Novant Health provide remarkable care to all of our behavioral health patients.”

Bird comes to Novant Health from WakeMed in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she served as system director of behavioral health services. In addition to her behavioral health experience, Bird has held a variety of management positions, including campus administrator for UNC Health Care at WakeBrook, director of acute nursing for WakeMed Cary Hospital and Dorothea Dix Hospital in Raleigh.

In addition to holding a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Colorado Denver, Bird received a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Missouri-Columbia with clinical specialization in community mental health nursing. In 2018, she received a Doctor of Nursing Practice in health care systems from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Bird is board-certified as an advanced executive nurse and a psychiatric-mental health registered nurse by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Bird will report to Mihal.
