CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Presbyterian Orthopaedic Hospital’s (POH) joint and spine programs have earned the Gold Seal of Approval™ for healthcare quality. The Joint Commission awarded POH Disease-Specific Care Certification for:
Joint
- Hip fracture
- Hip replacement
- Knee replacement
Spine
- Laminectomy
- Spinal fusion
To earn this distinction, disease management programs must undergo an extensive, unannounced, onsite evaluation by a team of Joint Commission reviewers every two years. Programs are evaluated against Joint Commission standards through an assessment of processes, ability to evaluate and improve care and interviews with patients and staff.
“This certification means that Presbyterian Orthopaedic Hospital does the right things and does them well for joint and spine patients,” said Jean E. Range, MS, RN, CPHQ, executive director, Disease-Specific Care Certification, Joint Commission.
“We voluntarily pursued this comprehensive, independent evaluation in order to enhance the quality and safety of care we provide,” said Mike Riley, MHA, RN, vice president and chief operating officer of POH. “We’re proud to achieve this distinction for five of our programs.”
The Joint Commission launched its Disease-Specific Care Certification program in 2002. It is the first program of its kind in the country to certify disease management programs. An independent, not-for-profit organization, The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits more than 18,000 healthcare organizations and programs in the United States and is the nation’s oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in healthcare.
The region’s only orthopaedic hospital, POH is also ranked in the top 5 percent in the country for surgical care measures.
