Area Health Systems Limit Visitation to Avoid Spread of Respiratory Viruses

Issue reminder about prevention and vaccination ahead of holiday season Out of concern for the health and wellbeing of the community, and due to the widespread prevalence of respiratory viruses such as RSV and flu among young children, several North Carolina health systems ask that children 12 and under not visit patients who are hospitalized. 

Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital opens expanded neonatal intensive care unit

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Novant Health, The Novant Health Foundation and respective donors recently celebrated the completion of phase one of the Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital expansion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony within Novant Health’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The expanded NICU space located in Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital will continue to provide critical care for babies born premature with enhanced space for patients and their families.

Dispose of medications safely at Novant Health locations

Novant Health has installed medication take back containers in its hospital lobbies as part of its sustainability goals and initiatives. Anyone in the community may use the containers free of charge to dispose of unused, unwanted or expired prescription and/or over-the-counter medications.

Privia Health and Novant Health Enterprises Form Strategic Partnership

Privia Health (Nasdaq: PRVA) today announced a joint venture and strategic partnership with Novant Health Enterprises, a division of Novant Health, a nationally recognized not-for-profit health system, to launch Privia Medical Group – North Carolina to bring support and resources to independent providers throughout the state. This joint venture is expected to support the transition to value-based care through a clinically integrated network (CIN) model, providing a new alternative for community physicians and provider groups. 

Novant Health launches its first school-based telehealth program with TytoCare

Through the use of TytoCare’s TytoClinic devices, Novant Health will now be able to serve nearly 900 students plus staff at the Charlotte Lab School with telehealth and remote physical exams. Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center Foundation funded three TytoClinic devices, one for each Charlotte Lab School campus. The program is powered by Novant Health’s digital health and engagement team.

Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center adds bariatric surgery, expands access to Winston-Salem and Clemmons

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – To make weight-loss surgery more accessible for patients in the Triad, Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center began offering bariatric surgery Nov. 1. Bariatric surgery, also referred to as weight-loss surgery, involves operating on the stomach and/or intestines to help patients lose weight. Bariatric surgery is the most effective and durable treatment for severe obesity and related medical conditions. In addition to weight loss, the procedure offers many health benefits, including decreased risk of heart disease, joint pain, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, several types of cancer and in some cases, completely curing Type 2 diabetes.

Novant Health adds new multiple sclerosis specialist in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Patients in southeastern North Carolina no longer need to travel far from home to see a multiple sclerosis specialist. While the specialty care service has actually been offered in the area for years, it became temporarily unavailable a few months ago due to a provider transition. To improve access to care, Novant Health Neurology in Wilmington welcomed Dr. Sara Klein, a neuroimmunologist, on Nov. 1. Klein specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of MS, a chronic disease that affects the central nervous system. Klein will serve as the only neuroimmunology and MS fellowship trained neurologist in the region.

TytoCare launches giveback initiative TytoCareS to donate the company's range of telehealth solutions to communities in need

TytoCareS’ first major giveback is a joint donation with one of the company’s partners, Novant Health, an integrated healthcare system based in Winston-Salem, N.C., with hospitals, physician clinics and outpatient facilities in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. Novant Health is donating more than 330 TytoHome devices to communities in Ukraine that currently lack access to basic healthcare, and TytoCare will donate an additional 50 TytoHome devices. The donation will provide recipients in Ukraine with clinic-quality care, provided by Ukrainian-based providers, at a time when medical facilities have been shuttered due to the ongoing war.

Charlotte family medicine resident ranked top in country, receives AAFP Award for Excellence in Graduate Medical Education

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Novant Health Charlotte medicine resident, Dr. James Muller, is one of 12 family medicine residents from across the country to receive the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Award for Excellence in Graduate Medical Education. Muller was selected for his leadership ability, community involvement, social commitment, exemplary patient care and interpersonal relationships.
