LOUISBURG, NC – Oct. 7, 2015 - Novant Health Franklin Medical Center announced today that it will cease operations Oct. 16, 2015, following several years of declining utilization. Hospital leaders have notified the state and are working closely with patients on an individual basis to coordinate ongoing care. Hospital employees will have access to outplacement assistance from the North Carolina Department of Commerce, which may include job fairs, financial planning workshops, interest/aptitude assessments and other specialized services.

Monies raised at Patrons’ Ball to fund new mammography technology  Salisbury, N.C., Sept. 22, 2015 – Novant Health Foundation Rowan Medical Center thanks all the participants at this year’s annual Patrons’ Ball for their generous support. The event held at Catawba College’s Peeler Crystal Lounge Sept. 12 raised $220,000. The funds collected from the benefit will be used to add special 3-D mammography technology at Rowan Medical Center’s breast center.

Tiny microchip inside the heart monitors vitals remotely before heart failure symptoms strike    Charlotte, N.C., Oct. 2, 2015 — Cardiologists at Novant Health Heart and Vascular Institute began today implanting tiny, microchip sensors in patients with advanced heart failure to better monitor symptoms and reduce patients’ chances of returning to the hospital.  The implantable sensor, called CardioMEMS HF System, is the nation’s first and only Food and Drug Approved wireless heart failure monitor that has been shown to reduce hospital readmissions and improve quality of life for many heart failure patients.

Community invited to participate in events and activities planned in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month Charlotte, N.C. Oct. 1, 2015 – Novant Health is raising awareness about the importance of breast health by supporting several community events and hosting educational classes throughout the month of October. Salisbury, N.C., Sept. 30 – In October, women who attend Rowan County’s Autumn Jubilee and the October Tour can get mammograms in a comfortable, convenient setting while they attend the festivities. The Novant Health Breast Center mobile unit will be on-site at the events, providing state-of-the-art digital mammography by a team of female technologists.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Neurologist Chris Morris, MD, has joined Novant Health Winston Neurology Kernersville in Kernersville, North Carolina. Dr. Morris earned a doctorate in Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas, and completed a residency in neurology and a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Bolivia, N.C., Sept. 18 – Earlier this month, Misty Justus-Baker, PA-C, joined Kenneth Hamby, D.O., at Novant Health Oceanside Family Medicine in Bolivia.
