Novant Health, together with UNC Health, UNC School of Medicine and Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, is launching a new psychiatric residency program to train more physicians in southeastern North Carolina and boost the pipeline of much-needed mental health physicians.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – On May 4, representatives from Novant Health and Vannoy Construction gathered to celebrate the structural completion of the new critical care tower at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center. The ceremony, known as a “topping out,” is commemorated when the steel structure’s final beam is welded into place, marking the project’s midpoint. Once complete in early 2025, the five-story, 193,000-square-foot critical care tower will bring the latest in advanced acute care services to the growing population in and around Forsyth County.

The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit that evaluates the safety, quality and patient experience provided by hospitals across the country, has recognized Novant Health’s commitment to safety and quality by awarding the health care system nine “A” Hospital Safety Grades for its Spring 2023 Hospital Safety Grade scoring period. 

Novant Health Pender Medical Center has received nearly $50,000 in grant funding from the North Carolina Healthcare Foundation. The grant will fund more than a dozen training programs, workshops and certifications for team members at Pender Medical Center and Novant Health Home Care.

The prestigious list is compiled based on an independent survey conducted by Forbes and Statista, which surveyed more than 45,000 U.S. employees, working for companies with a minimum of 1,000 employees, across various industries. Participants were asked to anonymously rate their organizations based on criteria such as age, gender, ethnicity, disability and LGBTQ+ equality, as well as general diversity.

THOMASVILLE, N.C. – Patients in and around Davidson County now have increased access to see a lung specialist for asthma, emphysema or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Novant Health Pulmonary Medicine – Thomasville, which opened in March, is conveniently located on the Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center campus. This brand-new outpatient clinic is designed to offer diagnostic and treatment services for patients, close to home.

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center has been named as one of the Best Hospitals for Pediatrics by Money, formerly known as Money Magazine. Money partnered with The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization that works to help consumers make informed decisions about their health and ability to access safe, high-value care.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Novant Health Foundation philanthropic partners Raymond and Erin Evernham committed $500,000 to Novant Health’s developmental and behavioral pediatrics program to expand programs and resources that can lead to an earlier autism spectrum disorder diagnosis for Charlotte area children.

Endowed chair made possible by a gift from Agnes B. and Edward I. Weisiger Sr.   CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Novant Health Foundation, whose philanthropic efforts inspire giving to Novant Health programs and initiatives, announces the establishment of the Agnes B. and Edward I. Weisiger Endowed Chair to recognize and support the leading-edge work of next-level physicians at the Novant Health Cancer Institute. The support of this endowed chair at the institute enables us to spearhead a medical research team focused on providing customized cancer care. Dr. David Rizzieri, system physician executive for the Novant Health Cancer Institute, has been named the inaugural endowed chair.
